  • Brassicas

Brassicas are a range of forage species used as a winter crop (e.g. kale, swedes, rape, winter turnip) or a summer crop (e.g. rape, summer turnip). They have a wide range of crop maturities from around 45-60 days (e.g. leafy turnip, summer turnip) to over 200 days (e.g. kale, swedes).

  • Fodder Beet

Fodder beet (Beta vulgaris) is typically sown in spring (October-November) as a high yielding autumn and/or winter crop. It can be used as either a single graze option from May to August, or the bulbs can be lifted with machinery and fed to stock. Lifted bulbs can be fed immediately or stored if leaves are removed.

  • Oats

Oats are a winter crop often compared to ryegrass. Oats produce a larger bulk of winter feed. Italian or annual ryegrass is higher in feed value and can be grazed more times into spring. Oats are often sown in a mix with ryegrass.
